By David Hamilton,

What was once an insurance agency for farmers only still sticks to its namesake, but now focuses on providing quality service to members of all kinds.

The Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance, including its Franklin County branch at 1212 Wilkinson Boulevard, still considers itself “the voice of Kentucky agriculture,” but the agency now offers a bevy of coverage options to people from all walks of life.

“You don’t have to be a farmer now to have insurance with the farm bureau; it’s for everybody,” Franklin County agency manager J.O. Osborne said. “What it comes down to for us at the end of the day is providing that (quality) service and being there for our members in whatever capacity we can.”

Osborne said whatever asset people need to protect, be it a farm, residence, vehicle or whatever else, they will be able to talk to a real person about getting the protection they need when calling or visiting the branch.

Those real people include Karen Sudduth and Jamie Greer, who have both been with the agency for 15 years or more.

“We just have a great staff with a long history in insurance and customer service, taking care of our members,” Osborne said.

While Farm Bureau Insurance offers a wide swath of coverage, one type of policy the bureau offers that often surprises prospective customers — or even current ones — is life insurance, Osborne said. Though he hears people say they were unaware that the agency offers life insurance “quite often,” Osborne said the bureau has a quality product to help customers protect their loved ones.

In addition to the agency’s focus on its clients, it also emphasizes the importance of being involved in the community. While Osborne himself serves on the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the agency also makes a point of sponsoring community events.

“We are community-based,” Osborne said. “That’s Farm Bureau. That’s our office.”

Everyone at the Wilkinson Boulevard location lives in the county and takes pride in being part of the community, Osborne said.

Both that location and the westside agency on U.S. 127 South are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance and its policies, visit www.kyfb.com/insurance.
