Dr. Black’s Eye Associates is a family owned medical practice that strives to make all patients feel like part of the family, said Robert Dienethal, chief operating officer.

The optometry practice was founded by Dr. Bradley C. Black in 1983. Black co-owns the business with his son-in-law Dr. Kristopher Pugh.

“They’re going to walk into a warm environment,”Dienethal said while explaining what patients could expect from Dr. Black’s Eye Associates. “A lot of medicine now has changed because everything is in and out. You’re almost more of a number than a person anymore because it’s a volume business. We try not to be like that. We’re going to make sure that we take the time to talk to you and find out what your issues are.”

Dr. Black’s Eye Associates are focused on making sure patients leave with their best vision possible.

The practice handles every aspect of eye care from eye exams to glasses and contacts, to treatments for glaucoma and cataract surgery. They also treat diabetic retinopathy.

“Diabetics need to make sure they get eye exams a couple of times a year,” Dienethal said. “We can make sure that we’re optimizing and catching anything early. If something’s gone haywire, we want to make sure we can fix and address it before they lose any vision.”

Dr. Black’s Eye Associates also does traditional cataract surgery at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

There are two satellite practices in Frankfort — one on the west side and one on the east side. One is located at 102 Diagnostic Drive and the other at 643 Comanche Trail, Dienethal said. Three doctors work between those locations.

Two doctors are on staff at the Diagnostic Drive location — Dr. Edwin Apenbrink and Dr. Joseph Faust. That location is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number is 502-223-8258.

Dr. Karoline Munson works at the Comanche Trail location, but also works 1 ½ days a week at the west side location. That location is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. The phone number is 502-227-4508.

Dr. Black’s Eye Associates accepts all forms of insurance for all providers, Dienethal said.
